Ask Brunel

Are you an experienced manager who wants to take your career to the next level with professional development? Then the Brunel MBA is for you.

Whether you want to advance your existing career, move to a new field, or start your own business, the Brunel MBA can give you the tools you need. Every aspect of the course is practical, fulfilling, integrated and, thanks to our world class teaching and research facilities, always relevant to today’s ever-changing business environment.

The Brunel MBA is a one year full-time or two year part-time course with three pathway options: The Brunel MBA, The Brunel MBA (Aviation Management), and The Brunel MBA (Healthcare Management).

The General Management MBA specialisation can help you become a more accomplished manager all-round. From finance to international strategy, harnessing technologies and marketing, this course will help you with senior management decision-making and solving business issues. We support you in identifying your strengths and weaknesses and working with them to help you progress.

The Aviation Management MBA is designed for professionals working for airlines, airport authorities, and supply and support services within the aviation sector such as engineering, logistics, catering, cargo, energy, safety, security, IT, and travel and tourism. It’s supported by our proximity to the world’s busiest passenger hub at Heathrow, Brunel’s growing reputation in aerospace and environmental research, and our close links with the aviation industry.

The Healthcare Management MBA focuses on application of knowledge in the healthcare industry and enables students to develop managerial skills to handle real-life business situations in the sector. The MBA (Healthcare Management) course is designed for professionals in strategic health authorities, primary care trusts and hospital administration, and for those working within private healthcare, outside suppliers and consultancies.

The Brunel MBA part-time course is designed to maximise your career impact in the global market over a two-year study period, without having to take a break from work. Study time for the part-time MBA is 12 hours per week over a maximum of three days, with some classes on Saturdays, making the programme an ideal option for full-time working professionals in and around London.

The Career Development Programme is an integral part of your professional development while you are studying your MBA. Landing a top job after completing your MBA is, of course, a key objective, and the Career Development Programme is designed to provide the tools to help you achieve your ambitions. The programme will help you define your career goals and create a personalised career action plan.

You’ll have access to one-to-one careers coaching to help you understand what makes you stand, out whether it’s your particular management experience and skills or specialist knowledge.

As part of your MBA course, Brunel provides an innovative series of Leadership Masterclasses. Sessions will help you with effective ways to present your ideas, the best methods for managing change, negotiating better and resolving conflict, as well as giving you deeper insight into cross cultural issues and corporate responsibility.

The Brunel Business School has links to many leading organisations such as Barclays, British Airways, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, IBM, Iraq Energy Institute, Jaguar, Johnson and Johnson, Microsoft, and Xerox. MBA students undertake regular visits to company head offices and representatives from these companies often visit campus as part of the MBA Guest Speaker Series, Let’s Talk Business.

The Graduate Entrepreneur programme allows selected graduates to stay on in the UK and work towards setting up their own business, under a special branch of the Tier 1 Route.

The Brunel MBA is one of a distinguished group of MBA programmes worldwide to have achieved accreditation by both the Association of Masters of Business Administration (AMBA) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

The Brunel MBA academic component comprises core modules, followed by elective modules in General management, Healthcare or Aviation and is crowned by a Business Project.

Many of our lecturers are internationally or nationally recognised for their innovative work and research, work as consultants for major companies worldwide, and have practical experience in business, sometimes having run their own companies.

Lectures provide a broad overview of key concepts and ideas, and provide a framework from which to carry out more in-depth study independently.

Throughout the course, you’ll be expected to undertake group work as well as individual projects and presentations. There will also be research talks on key management issues and presentations by outside speakers from the industry.

Assessment and feedback

Modules are typically assessed by individual assessment, or an examination. Coursework and examinations place emphasis on the ability to think and reason critically, but constructively. The business project is the capstone demonstration of these skills, requiring students to conceive, justify, design and execute a major project.

Assessment

Our assessment methods reflect the skills and experiences you will value the most when you graduate. We will make sure you are thoroughly prepared for your assessments, which include written assignments, discussions, group work, presentations, case studies, role plays and game simulations.

Work placement scheme

Many postgraduate courses at Kingston University allow students to do a 12-month work placement as part of their course. The responsibility for finding the work placement is with the student; we cannot guarantee the work placement, just the opportunity to undertake it. As the work placement is an assessed part of the course, it is covered by a student's tier 4 visa.

Invoicing on the placement courses is split into two stages. The standard course fee is payable in year 1 with the placement fee invoiced in year 2. Therefore, students starting in September 2018 would therefore be charged the placement fee of £1,230 in September 2019. Students commencing the course in September 2019 will be invoiced the placement fee in 2020 (provisionally £1,350).

This amount will only be charged to your account after you find a placement and are enrolled on the module. You will not be charged this fee if you do not manage to secure a work placement.

Find out more about the postgraduate work placement scheme.

MBA scholarships

Kingston Business School offers a number of bursaries for our MBA students. Find out more about this and other funding opportunities for the Kingston MBA.

Forming the backbone of any serious careers strategy, learn the secrets of maximising CV impact, how to impress at interviews, effective job search techniques and networking skills.

MBA Professional Development Week

Experiential learning is the process of making meaning from direct experience, and this week is dedicated to active experimentation and reflective observation.

The main event is held off campus and takes students away from a typical working or study environment. Over the course of this three-day programme you will participate in a range of practical activities and challenging ‘learning metaphors’ which are used as a starting point to discuss skill traits, individual development themes and to receive feedback from trained facilitators and cohort peers.

This event provides the opportunity to explore leadership styles, the ability to create followership, examine examples of effective communication in challenging team contexts and to develop deeper insight regarding mental toughness and resilience.

Learning is very much applied: you’ll get superb exposure to practical skills and the world of work, and you’ll graduate as a confident, career-ready individual with real employer appeal in any industry.

The course is available both full-time and part-time, and will suit anyone from recent graduates to those who have been working for some years. You could also achieve a joint award: passing 2 aligned course modules makes you eligible for the CMI Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership.

In addition to gaining academic skills and knowledge, MBA students have the opportunity to undertake a professional development programme designed to develop career plans, improve professional skills, and increase employability.

Why Coventry University London?

We believe that there is no better place to learn about business than to study in the heart of one of the most successful business and financial centres in the world. Launched in 2010 and located in the City of London, we are minutes away from the Bank of England and the London Stock Exchange, and are surrounded by several blue chip companies.

Course information

This is an intensive, multi-disciplinary and very dynamic course that will broaden your industry knowledge. You’ll graduate with a holistic view of business, so you’ll be adaptable when it comes to working across different management functions. You’ll be eligible to take up business management and leadership roles in any sector globally.

This MBA in Global Business could be your ticket to a high-flying career in business leadership within an international context. Besides deepening your existing awareness of the theory and practice of business, you’ll develop essential lifelong skills including critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, data analysis, effective communication, leadership, and change management. These will serve you in any business discipline and at every stage of your career.

This course takes a very practical approach to learning, so you’ll have significant exposure to business techniques and their application in industry. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to meet with, hear from and undertake projects for real employers; to undertake collaborative leadership projects; and to work effectively as part of a cross-cultural team.

Career prospects

The way you decide to use your MBA may depend on why you decided to study for it. You may have been studying part-time, having remained employed and needing this qualification to be able to progress with your current employer. You might want a complete change of career direction, or you may have embarked on the course immediately after your undergraduate studies. Whatever your reason, you’ll be well-equipped – and impressively qualified – to pursue the business career of your choice, regardless of industry or sector.

You will have expertise in strategy, marketing, leadership, finance, global human resource management, international business, internal trade, and project management – all within an international context. In terms of invaluable ‘soft’ skills, you’ll possess well-developed powers of analysis, clear perspectives on strategy and strategic thinking, and highly effective communication and research skills. These are all in demand from employers in private, public, and third-sector organisations around the world.

Where our graduates work

The wide-ranging content of this MBA offers considerable flexibility, whether you decide to specialise in any one of a range of management disciplines or take an overview of them all.

You might choose to work in industry or the service sector – particularly the increasingly important knowledge economy. You might decide to go into consultancy, whether joining a leading global firm or a more ‘niche’ business specialising in a particular sector, management function or country.

Your MBA from Coventry University London offers a superb opportunity to develop a successful career which could lead to executive, board-level or partnership opportunities. Some of our students have successfully set up their own businesses, supported by our entrepreneurship modules and enterprise team.

From the heart of London’s exciting financial district, get ready to take your place in the increasingly fast-moving, complex and exciting world of international financial services.

Since the global financial crisis of 2008, fundamental and far-reaching changes have required leaders in this sector to think and behave in a new way. Wide-ranging political, regulatory and technological responses to these changes, as well as new business opportunities and challenges, form part of the new landscape. This MBA explores the implications of all these changes, preparing graduates to lead the financial services organisations of the future.

This programme will equip you for a high-flying career in financial services, whether you’ve just completed your undergraduate studies or have been working for some time, and whether you need an MBA to accelerate your career progression or want to move into this sector for the first time. It offers the flexibility of start dates in October and January plus options for full- or part-time study.

In addition to gaining academic skills and knowledge, MBA students have the opportunity to undertake a professional development programme designed to develop career plans, improve professional skills, and increase employability.

We believe that there is no better place to learn about business than to study in the heart of one of the most successful business and financial centres in the world. Launched in 2010 and located in the City of London, we are minutes away from the Bank of England and the London Stock Exchange, and are surrounded by several blue chip companies.

Course information

Studying in the City of London means you’ll be exposed to one of the world’s busiest and most successful financial centres on a daily basis. Your tutors will take every opportunity to connect you with the world of financial services, both within and beyond the classroom – and you’ll have opportunities for overseas field trips.

Responding to recent upheavals in the global financial markets, this MBA programme will ask you to question conventional wisdom and replace it with new perspectives and patterns of thinking, and to explore ways in which managerial paradigms can be re-thought and implemented.

Our applied approach to learning means you’ll rapidly become fluent in real working practice, and you’ll have many opportunities to mix with the world of business and finance. You’ll focus on industry-standard financial software and trading platforms, business simulations, real client projects and entrepreneurship while exploring corporate finance, the markets and banking.

By passing 2 specific modules, you could also achieve the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Certificate Level 7 in Strategic Management and Leadership.

Career prospects

In the UK alone, banking and finance employs almost 3 million people, making it one of the UK’s biggest employers and contributors to GDP. This is reflected around the world.

Successful graduates of this Global Financial Services MBA programme should have well-developed powers of analysis, clear perspectives on strategy and strategic thinking, and highly effective communication and research skills. You will also have a globalised perspective on all aspects of financial management and leadership. These skills are very much in demand from employers in private, public and third-sector organisations around the world.

Where our graduates work

Many career options will be open to you when you graduate from this MBA programme. You might choose to put your skills to use within the financial services sector; for example, retail or investment banking, insurance, or the markets. Alternatively, your skills would be equally suited to managing the finance function of any organisation, anywhere, including business, the public sector and the third sector (charities and humanitarian organisations).

You could also choose to go into consultancy, whether on your own or as part of a leading global consulting firm. You might start your own company, or you might go into a related field such as IT, publishing, journalism, or the regulation of a financial sector.

This is a challenging, fast-paced and stimulating MBA course, designed to offer the industry-specific business and management skills you need to build a successful career in international fashion management.

This course offers a comprehensive understanding of the business of fashion, rather than teaching you to be a designer or producer, so that you can build a career in management or leadership. It focuses on the global and technological shifts which have characterised the industry in recent years; the management of fashion design and product development; and international fashion manufacturing and retailing strategies.

You may have recently completed your undergraduate degree, in fashion or any other discipline. Alternatively, you may have been working for some time and want to accelerate your career progression in fashion, or to make a move into fashion for the first time.

The MBA International Fashion Management Course addresses the needs of the next generation of fashion industry professionals by providing a challenging and stimulating course that combines the highest quality of academic and professional discipline built on current research and advanced scholarship, with direct input from and exposure to the fashion industry.

The learning and assessment on the MBA International Fashion Management course is structured around active, participative and individual learning, while focusing on systematic understanding of knowledge and critical awareness of current trends and/ or new insights, much of what is at, or informed by, the forefront of academic discipline, field of study and an area of professional practice.

Teamwork, business simulations and real-industry fashion projects with fashion industry clients and professionals (who so far included clients like London Hat Week, Sarah Haran, Endrime, Laura Lee Jewellery among others) all of which are underpinned by academic analysis and synthesis, offering students an opportunity to apply their academic knowledge and skills in professional practice.

Career prospects

The global fashion market is valued at £2.4 trillion, accounting for around 2% of the world's GDP. The industry is growing at 5.5% a year – and if it were a country, it would be the seventh-largest in the world.

Fashion is a huge, highly competitive and growing industry, which means that strong business leaders are always in high demand. This MBA programme is exactly that – a degree in business administration rather than in fashion design and development. That means that you’ll learn to take your place among a new generation of business leaders, able to respond effectively to the demands of an unknowable future.

You will understand in-depth how the international fashion business operates and where its opportunities and challenges lie. Your global perspective will deliver a strong foundation in cross-cultural communication and international business. The course offers a springboard to a career culminating in senior management roles and should accelerate your promotion to rewarding leadership positions.

Where our graduates work

Graduates from this course have well-developed powers of analysis, strategic thinking and communication, and are well-equipped to meet the leadership challenges of today and tomorrow.

The internships on this course are of a very high standard, and quite a few lead to permanent positions on graduation. Past students have gone on to exciting careers for leading brands in Europe, Japan and China.

You could develop a successful career in a range of disciplines within fashion, including garment production, the supply chain, buying, advertising, fashion retailing, retail management, finance, brand management, visual merchandising, marketing, PR, publishing, journalism, IT, event production or consultancy. You might choose to be employed or to start your own business.
