If you join us in March, you will be offered the general MBA course with designated options.

  • Strategic Management in an International Context (15 credits)
  • Professional Management and Leadership Development (30 credits)
  • Value Creation in Organisations - Operations and Marketing Management (30 credits)

Career Ready

An MBA is a challenging qualification which requires significant dedication. Employers recognise its worth, and the value that an MBA-qualified business leader can bring to their organisation.

While you are studying for this course, you will be an Affiliate Member of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). This gives you access to the CMI's support resources and networking opportunities. If you have 3 or more years' management experience when you graduate, you will be entitled to apply for full membership of the CMI or Chartered status.

Business graduates from Sunderland have secured roles in organisations such as Facebook, Microsoft, Sage, HSBC, IBM, Enterprise, Nissan, Accenture, Procter & Gamble, Merck & Co, Barclays, Nissan, Marriott Hotels, Viacom 18, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Adidas.

Optional PgCert in Human Resource Management or Digital Marketing and Analytics

Following the completion of your MBA programme, you can continue your studies by completing an optional Postgraduate Certificate in Digital Marketing and Analytics or Human Resource Management.

This route enables you to develop specialist knowledge in the areas of digital marketing and analysis or in skills in people management and learning and development.

The total duration of the MBA with PgCert is 24 months

We invite business leaders into the University to share their experiences with students. Past speakers include Divine Chocolate’s Head of Sales and Marketing and Sunderland Football Club’s CEO.

Learning from business professionals can be very useful if you’re not sure what career to pursue when you graduate. If you already have a plan for your career, these events are an excellent way to start building a network of business contacts.

Octavian and Hanneke Lazin

Octavian and Hanneke Lazin have been together since they were 16 years old and have now graduated from the same course. They both run their own business called Adjust your Auto, here in Sunderland.

"My favourite module would be international strategy, that was really great, we have our own online business and it's really helped us add value and think about the strategy to put our product in other countries as well.

We've learnt so much along the way, it's been really valuable and we've loved it. It's been really practical, we've been able to team up with other schools, the media school for example. They had a project to create adverts for local businesses and they chose us. It's been absolutely great, inside the class, and the experience outside the class as well."

Kendrick Lim

"Studying at the University of Sunderland has been a great new chapter in my life. Its rapidly-improving worldwide reputation and ranking have been a major factor behind my decision to study here, and these were justified right in front of my eyes as soon as I arrived here.

The MBA course particularly has been nothing short of incredible. Just by mingling around with my course mates, I have benefited greatly from their sharing of the culture and work experience in their respective countries. The helpful and knowledgeable lecturers also make my studying experience here fantastic. The classes are structured in a way that encourages students’ participation and the lecturers are always able to facilitate students’ critical thinking, making the classes alive with students exchanging views and sharing experience during discussions and debates.

MBA students enjoy the privilege of going on a field trip to Munich at a subsidised rate. The visits to world-known companies like BMW and Audi in Munich are of great benefit to all participants and give us a whole new valuable experience. Other than this, we also visited companies like Nissan, Sage and John Lewis, which are great opportunities that might not come by very often in other universities.

I would strongly recommend the University of Sunderland. I cannot speak highly enough about how wonderful this University, and particularly the MBA course, is. This course is certainly not just about the one year we spend studying here, but the lifelong changes that can happen to us which will equip us to be shining stars in the working field once we graduate."
