Course Description

The Brighton MBA is designed for professionals who wish to advance their career or to pursue their own business ideas. You will develop your potential in your chosen field, cultivating the analytical skills and entrepreneurial thinking needed to turn business challenges into opportunities.

Accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the only chartered professional body in the field of management and leadership, you can graduate with a degree as well as the CMI's Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership.

Full-time students also have the option to add work experience to their MBA through a year’s paid placement in industry.

During your studies, you will benefit from free membership of the Institute of Directors. Our partnership with professional associations ensures the Brighton MBA remains relevant to the needs of today's business practitioners.

Course content

Course structure

Case studies and professional work-based projects enable you to apply your new skills to the benefit of employers. Guest speakers, industry visits and attending core modules provide a wider perspective and exposure to different cultures as experiences are shared.

It is possible to complete the part-time course in two years, but most students spread the workload over three years.

Flexible study

Our MBA programme has been developed so that you can choose to complete your MBA full-time, part-time or a combination of online and taught (blended learning). When studying in the block taught format, modules can be taken in any order to suit your interests, apart from the final module.

You can also choose to start your MBA in January or September, depending on the route chosen. The two-year full-time MBA with placement year starts in September.

Industrial study visit

The optional study visit to an organisation gives you the opportunity to experience live case studies and meet senior managers whilst engaging with institutions. Previously, students have visited Belfast City Council, Comité Interprofessionnel du vin de Champagne (Epernay, France) and the European Commission in Brussels.

Placement year

To further increase your employability and international experience we offer the opportunity to take a placement year. This means that your course will take two years, but you’ll be graduating with work experience.

The year on placement in a role related to your course will allow you to put all that you have learned on your masters into practice, enhancing your career opportunities and giving you practical experience in your area of expertise.

During your placement you will also complete a business project. This project is assessed as part of your masters and, depending on the topic that is agreed between you and your employer, could also provide a valuable piece of insight for your placement employer.

Our placement partners include BMW, Bosch, Disney, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, HSBC, IBM, Ipsos Mori, L’Oréal, Nike, Metropolitan Police and The Pensions Regulator.

Our dedicated Placements and Employability team will support you in finding a placement.

We are now offering a two-year international study visa route to support applications for this course.

You can apply to the CMI to buy the certificate at the current cost but will not need to sit their exams.

Michael Morgan

"To say that my experience and learning was of the highest order is to underplay what I was fortunate enough to be a part of. The course has changed my life. I am now looking at business on a corporate level and working in the change management team at an investment bank in the city of London. This opportunity would never have presented itself to me without the University of Brighton and the MBA.

"The lecturers that were core to my course were always there for me, supporting and cajoling, sometimes even scolding me but always with my best intentions at heart. Without them I would never have made it through the MBA. My respect for all of them is beyond words.

"I have now been able to use my knowledge in a work-based environment and feel grateful to the University of Brighton for the grounding they gave me. I now have a great understanding of the frameworks within which I work and am able to make a contribution on all fronts."
